ISO CLASS 4 RATING

What is this and how can it help lower your insurance premium?

Laramie County Fire Authority is proud to announce it has achieved an Insurance Service Organization, (ISO), Public Protection Classification class 4 rating after our latest ISO survey. Laramie County Fire Authority improved our entire service area, after the merger, to a class 4. The new ISO rating may result in savings to a business and homeowners within Laramie County Fire Authority Protection area in regard to fire insurance. Fire Chief Jason Caughey encourages all business and homeowners to contact your insurance provider to inquire how the new ISO rating may affect your policies.

Chief Caughey gives credit to the members and administration staff of Laramie County Fire Authority which has worked diligently to attain this goal and has been honored by the acknowledgement and results from the ISO. Laramie County Fire Authority has reached an elite level that many combination fire departments of the same size strive to reach. We would like to thank each and every member and community partner that helped to make this possible.

Late fall 2022, ISO conducted an evaluation of our organization in an effort to determine our structure fire suppression capabilities. ISO collected and evaluated information regarding the data collected is analyzed using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). The four major areas evaluated are:

  • Emergency Communications

  • Water Supply

  • Fire Department assessment including: fire service personnel and training

  • Community Risk Reduction

Using a uniform set of criteria, incorporating nationally recognized standards developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and American Water Works Association (AWWA), ISO issues a Public Protection Classification (PPC) grade rated 1 (Best) to 10 (Does not meet minimum requirements).

Effective June 1, 2022, Laramie County Fire Authority rating will be an ISO Class 4 for areas within 5 road miles from a fire station.  Many insurance companies utilize these independent evaluations as a factor for determining property insurance rates. Lower ISO ratings can mean lower insurance premiums for our businesses and homeowners.
